Once again, the Alabama Football running back room will be among the best in the SEC this season. A group that added one of the conference’s top offseason transfers, combined with multiple returning names, what is the running back outlook for the Crimson Tide in 2022?

Jahmyr Gibbs

One of the SEC’s top transfer additions this past offseason, Gibbs comes to Alabama from Georgia Tech where the junior is likely cemented as the Crimson Tide’s top option at running back entering the year.

Looking back at the last two seasons, Gibbs was a major piece of the Yellow Jackets offense from the running back position, rushing for a combined 1,206 yards and eight touchdowns on 232 attempts. Gibbs also made a key impact at Georgia Tech in a few other areas as well, catching a total of 59 passes for 768 yards and five touchdowns during that span, while also being one of the top kick return options in the ACC a year ago.

As for what Gibbs’ 2022 season could look like, the junior is simply one of the top playmakers in the entire SEC. Because of this, Alabama will likely try to get the ball to Gibbs often, as well as in numerous different ways through the run, pass, and return game.

Overall, Gibbs should be one of the top running backs in the SEC this season and could be set for a career-year as one of the focal points of the Alabama Football offense.
