Alabama football’s perfect season was foiled in the title game last year, so how will Nick Saban and Tua Tagovailoa rebound in the 2019 campaign?

As always, the hype coming out of Tuscaloosa regarding Alabama football is for real entering the 2019 season. Nick Saban brings back star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for another season and, while they suffered some losses on the offensive line and on defense, the talent factory has ready-made replacements primed to step up around an elite group of skill-position players.

During the 2019 regular season, Alabama was rarely tested, much less scared of suffering a loss. They won all 12 of their games, from the opener against Louisville to the finale in the Iron Bowl against Auburn, by 20 points or more. They looked the part of a juggernaut that would mow through any team in their path.

However, the SEC Championship Game put the Crimson Tide on the ropes as the Georgia Bulldogs had the game in hand after the first half as a banged-up Tagovailoa struggled. Enter Jalen Hurts, who became the savior for Saban’s team and captured the conference championship. They then handled business in the College Football Playoff semifinal matchup against Oklahoma. However, the title game was less than storybook.

While Tagovailoa and Alabama landed their punches early in the National Championship Game against Clemson, Trevor Lawrence and the Tigers ultimately put a hurting on the Tide, winning the title emphatically behind a 44-16 victory.

With Hurts transferring to Oklahoma for the 2019 campaign, all eyes are on Tagovailoa to lead his team back to those heights, but hopefully with a different result in the College Football Playoff. Before they get there, though, let’s take a look at their regular season slate for 2019 and offer up week-by-week predictions for how they’ll fare.
